Weaver: The Kervanian Chronicles Book 1

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Reading Weaver is like getting out of my comfort zone. Fantasy-adventure genre is not really my thing but it feels good to read something different from time to time. I may not be too thrilled with this book but it certainly is promising. It still needs some polishing but there were some good points to it too.

I admire the originality of the concept, the whole Kervanian world was noteworthy indeed. I like how the story has an RPG vibe, as each of the characters have certain roles depending mostly on their skills. Necromancers, different types of mages, wizards - those are usual characters you see in games. I often picture game-like scenarios in some of the action scenes.

While the concept is original, it certainly needs improvement. I’ve noticed many typos and grammatical errors. The start was weak, the pace was slow. Many things were also not explained properly and thus leaving me confused. Though I’m not very much familiar with genres like this, I know that proper explanation about things (terms, people, places, etc) that are unique to the story must be done thoroughly. These things are the key-point of the story so it must be presented in such way that will make readers understand it easily. Also, I think there were some parts that needed a little more wrapping up. But then again, this is just the first book so all those loose ends will come to light in the other books.

Overall, I still think this is quite a decent read. If you are into these type of genre, or if you’re into role-playing games, then this is for you. A world of fantasy, magic, ancient creatures, and quest - this book has all the potential to let you in for a one-of-a-kind adventure.
